There are plenty of things to do in Cyprus other than frequent theatrical shows. Below are our top 6 things to do while in Cyprus for your vacation.
Immerse yourself in the Paphos Ruins
A UNESCO heritage site, the entire ancient city of Paphos is a step back in time. Traversing this entire ancient city is breathtaking and includes the magnificent Tombs of the Kings, a Hellenistic necropolis featuring eight royal tombs dating back to the 3rd century BC. Make sure to allow yourself a full day to experience Paphos, as there is plenty to see.
Take a walk through old town (Limassol)
Nestled in amongst the glamorous, recent Limassol Marina sits the old town of Limassol with its narrow streets and old architecture. The shining star of the old town is the medieval castle, which is famous for being the setting of the first Royal English wedding outside of England. Here, it is said that in 1911, Richard the Lionheart married Queen Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England. A worthwhile walk back in time.
Visit Aphrodite’s rock
Greek Mythology claims that the birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite lies on the path between Paphos and Limassol. Stop here later in the evening and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets that Cyprus has to offer. Wonderful scenery and a wonderful history. What more could you ask for.
Step back in time at Kourion
Located near Episkopi, Kourion is the site of ancient ruins that are unique and interesting (such as gladiator’s houses). Wheelchair friendly access and very big, this site will require at least 3-4 hrs of your time in order to thoroughly explore.
Stop by St Lazarus Church
A spectacular Greek Orthodox Church in the heart of Larnaca, this exquisite building was erected in the 9th century over the tomb of St Lazarus. Stunningly beautiful and hidden away in an area of the city surrounding by cafes, buildings, and shops, it is well worth a look when visiting this wonderful city.
Take the kids to Fasouri Water Park
For an activity to keep the kids happy, head to Fasouri Water Park in Limassol. With the biggest wave pool in Europe the kids will be sure to soak up the fun and activities.
